Cashmere on Ice
Engineer, environmentalist, activist, and Innovator Sonam Wangchuk traveled for 12 days from Ladakh, India to New York City carrying a section of a glacier wrapped in several kilos of cashmere. His mission and ours is to engage the world about the "Year of Glaciers' Preservation."
And The Winners Are
Our Cashmere on Ice Competition sponsored in conjunction with Long Thread Media has come to a close. Carol A. Pearsall won the The Best of Ladakh $500 prize with her glacier inspired mittens. If you have never seen a glacial moraine, she perfectly captured it in the palm of her hand.
We are grateful to everyone who participated in the contest and inspired by the variety of creations that were submitted. Most of all, we hope this has been an opportunity to educate the fiber community about the effects of climate change at the source of some of our most precious yarns.

Glacial Story Shawl

In honor of the United Nations “International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation,” we are offering a variety of eventsto engage and educate the fiber arts community and beyond. Rapidly melting glaciers endanger not only the environment but also the Indigenous populations who depend on them for their social and economic survival. Many herders are suffering up to a 50% loss in livestock due to water shortage and inaccessibility.
We built an artificial glacier of sorts and took it to this year's Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival where it proceeded to do exactly what glaciers are doing all over the world, it began to melt!
