India

August 25-September 3, 2027

Delhi - Leh - Nubra Valley - Pangong - Changtang - Indus River Valley

Overview

Enjoy a 5-star experience when you arrive in Delhi for your stay at the famous Imperial Hotel. Next, you will leave the typical tourist trails behind for an 11-day cultural journey through the High Himalayas.

Discover the region's rich heritage as you ride camels in the high desert, tour an exclusive nomadically owned cashmere mill, and try your hand at making momos.

Along the way, explore the iconic Thiksey Monastery, take in local music and traditional dance performances, and experience the unforgettable adventure of sleeping under the stars in a nomadic camp.

Background

We began working in Ladakh in 2007, captivated not only by the majesty of the Himalayan range but also by a history dating back to 9,000 BCE. Our long-standing relationships with the semi-nomadic people who tend the land and its animals offer an unparalleled opportunity. Journeying with our local guide, Konchok Stobgais, you will experience life in one of India's most remote regions and gain a deeper understanding of its unique traditions.

As a native of Pangong, Stobgais provides more than local knowledge, but a keen understanding of the cashmere industry. He was raised in a semi-nomadic family, herding his family's goats and yaks through the region. After graduating from university, he returned to Ladakh and became a trekking guide. Soon thereafter, he was appointed director of the cashmere mill. Stobgais's  tales are as endless as his heart.

Vehicles

To help you take in every mile of breathtaking scenery, we travel in large, comfortable Toyota SUVs with robust engines. Our drivers are exceptionally skilled and know these mountain passes so well they could navigate them with their eyes closed—we promise, they won't.

Accomodations

Experience the finest hospitality India has to offer alongside the rustic charm of true nomadic life. Our itinerary pairs elegant, upscale hotels with unforgettable nights under the stars, ensuring comfort and relaxation at every turn (yak neighbors notwithstanding).

I have been wanting to go on this trip with Wild Fibers for years. It was so much more than I could have imagined. My understanding of India has completely changed

Thank you!

I can't imagine a better trip to the Himalayas. I was worried about sleeping in a tent, and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life; the pictures really don't do it justice.

You have to experience it yourself.

You assured me this was not a trip just for fiber people, and you were right. We saw so much every day; I still can't decide what I liked the best. Leaving was definitely the worst part, but I promise to come back

This is a balanced itinerary featuring local food, breathtaking views, home visits, and ample time to shop the local markets. Beyond sightseeing, you’ll connect with local farmers and learn about traditional village life.

This is a moderate trip that does not require heavy walking, though fort visits do involve plenty of stairs (with plenty of spots to rest along the way).

Health Requirement: Because of the high altitude, all travelers to Ladakh are strongly advised to take Diamox, a prescription medication to prevent high-altitude sickness.
