March 4 - March 11, 2022
Alaska in March is ideal. There is plenty of daylight and no sign of mosquitoes.
We are delighted to offer a VIP Tour of the musk ox farm in Palmer, followed by a private dinner at the home of the farm's manager, Mark Austin. We also enjoy "front row" seats at the Iditarod, and take a daylong train ride through the Alaskan wilderness, traveling through Denali National Park, and the Alaska and Brooks Range.
Day 1: Anchorage (optional visit to Fur Rondy)
Day 2: Musk Ox Farm
Day 3: Official Iditarod start, (Willow Lake)
Day 4: Dog Mushing
Day 5: Fairbanks, Chena Hot Springs
Day 6: Aurora Viewing/Ice Sculpture Contest
Day 7: Large Animal Research Station
Day 8: Train Ride from Fairbanks to Anchorage
No one would argue that Alaska is an animal lover's paradise. We maximize that opportunity by partnering with those who can provide an insider's view, whether it's learning about managing a farm with 80 musk ox, a kennel of sixty sled dogs or understanding the effects of climate change on the local flora and fauna. We promise you will be engaged at every level.
For those who can arrive a day early, we recommend visiting Fur Rondy in Anchorage where more than 150 native artisans sell their work, ranging from handknit qiviut, handcarved whalebone., hand painted baleen, and more.
Aurora Winter Train
After leading tours in Alaska for eight years, we believe there is no better way to experience the stunning beauty of Alaska's winter wilderness than from the comfort of the Aurora Winter Train. Mountain ranges are covered in snow The moose are in abundance. Foxes, bald eagles, and other types of wildlife are all visible without leaving your seat. The Aurora Winter Train is an old fashioned flag stop journey, making scheduled stops at some stations, and always stopping at those where the flag has been lowered. It is one of the top train rides in the US. and certainly in Alaska.
